5 Essentials for a New Homeowner (and their projects)
Someone asked about making a list of essential tools to be able to do projects and I thought it was a great idea for a blog post! While I’ve been accumulating things over time there have been purchases that have been essential to being able to do a lot of my projects, and things I think every homeowner can benefit from having! This list is going to be primarily focused on tools to get projects done, so I hope it’s beneficial for yall!
Ryobi Value Tool Kit
Buy Here | $200-$300
I got this for Christmas a couple years and it has been ESSENTIAL to my projects. You might think, what would I use some of these tools for!? I thought the same thing, but I have ended up needing to use all of them! The reciprocating saw was really helpful in cutting down the old metal fence, and the Multijob tool has helped me cut really random spots on things like my fence, back door, etc to fit it with new handles and locks. If you can, wait til Black Friday, and I got this kit for $200!
2. Drill bit Set
Buy Here | $21
This is really important if you buy a drill! Having all these various bits is really helpful when you’re working on various projects. I’ve needed to drill all kinds of holes for different projects and not having to go to the store every time I need a new size is very helpful!
3. Tape Measure and Hammer
Buy Here | $50 for the set
If you buy anything, buy a hammer and tape measure! And don’t buy the wimpy tape measures. You really need a good quality one that will hold up when you’re trying to measure long distances, and of course a hammer is pretty self-explanatory.
4. Picture Hanging Kit
Buy Here | $7
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve grabbed this to hang various picture frames, even curtain rods! It has screws and anchors for heavier duty things as well as a variety of nails for all your picture hanging projects. If I do have to buy more specific sized screws or nails, I put it in this tray too to help keep it all organized so I don’t lose them!
5. Paint Supply Kit
Buy Here | $15
Painting is the biggest change you can make to your house that has the biggest impact on the way your house looks. It’s good to have a roller, paintbrush, and tray to be prepared to paint whenever the mood strikes you! Whether you’re repainting your walls, painting old paneling, or your kitchen cabinets, this is essential!
Overall, if you were to buy all this, it comes to $400, which is honestly very cheap to get all this and be able to tackle a lot of house projects! My honorable mention would be to get a Kreg Jig though! If you plan to build any kind of furniture it’s very helpful for making pocket holes!
